The cost (entry point) of enterprise search just went down, as Microsoft announced yesterday the release of Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express. This accouncement is interesting in light of recent announcements about Google investments in social networking platforms and mobility, countered by Microsoft's push deeper into enterprise search.
Two behemoths are battling for users' hearts and minds, and hopefully the net benefit to us as information workers is a flood of innovation, new business models, and decreasing price points.
